Spray Tan Care
Pre and Post care tanning tips
- You will need to exfoliate before your appointment. Do so with a glove, mitt exfoliating brush and/or scrub to help remove dirt, oils, old skin cells and anything else from your skin. Improper exfoliation may prevent you from achieving a perfectly flawless tan.
- Avoid products for exfoliation that contain oils, petroleum jelly, alcohol and fragrances. Avoid makeup, lotions, sunscreens, deodorant and perfume. These create barriers between your skin and the solution. They may also mix improperly with the solution and cause discoloration. Some specific products to avoid include Aveeno, Dove and Olay. If you would like guidance on what products to use, please ask us!
- Shaving and waxing exfoliate the skin, so it is best to do them a day/two before. It is better to not use shaving cream, as it tends to leave oils on the skin.
- Other beauty services should be done prior to tanning. This includes but is not limited to waxing, eyelash extensions, and all nail appointments. If receiving these services post-spray, it will react unfavorably with your tan. If receiving these services before but on the same day DO NOT use any oils/lotions. (Especially manicures/pedicures)
- Pay attention to the weather and plan accordingly. You need to avoid sweating and getting wet, so plan to have a hooded coat and umbrella for any wet conditions.
- For what you should wear during your appointment, it all depends on your preference and whether or not you prefer tan lines. Undergarments or clothing left on will create tan lines. We offer disposable underwear and shower caps.
- We have two different solutions: Regular and Rapid. We also offer a variety of levels. If you are unsure of which tan to choose, we are happy to help you decide!
- Before you get sprayed, we will help you apply barrier cream to prevent certain areas of the body from over developing.
- Once you are undressed a spray tan artist will spray the airbrush solution onto you. They will help guide you on the necessary movements to apply the tan. Once the solution has been sprayed, you will be given time to dry.
- After drying, the artist will wipe your palms and nails and blend any necessary areas. Drying powder can be added to any tan at an additional cost.
- Clothing that is soft, loose, and cotton is ideal post spray. Darker clothes are less likely to stain. Avoid silk and denim. Tight clothes WILL cause tan lines. If you spray bra-free or strap-free, do not put a bra back on post spray.
- Avoid sweating and getting wet. The spray tan will splotch or streak if you sweat or get wet so stay in a cool dry area in comfortable clothing. Avoid exercise. To wash hands, use hand sanitizer or a hand sanitizer wipe on your palms ONLY. Avoid touching your tan- if you get any tanner on your fingertips or palms, wipe them ASAP.
- Be cautious around animals, spray tan is a sugar based solution, so most cats and dogs will want to lick you.
- Check the weather and dress accordingly.
- If sleeping before showering wear long sleeves and pants to bed, and cover your hands with socks to avoid skin to skin contact and staining of bed sheets.
- SHOWER TIME: Follow the instructions from your spray tan artist for when you are ready to rinse or shower. This will depend on whether you did our Regular or Rapid solution. See "Post Care After Showering" for further info.
- SHOWER TIME: Follow the instructions from your spray tan artist for when you are ready to rinse or shower. This will depend on whether you did our Regular or Rapid solution. The Regular is left on for at least 8 hours, and the Rapid is rinsed sooner at a specific time. If you forgot your shower time, call or text us.
- Typically it is best to use only water for your first rinse. DO NOT shave and DO NOT use any exfoliating tools or products. Depending on what solution you use, will determine if you can use soap and shampoo.
- Once you have showered, use lotion every day! Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Drink water to hydrate. Your tan will last longer and look more even if you are well moisturized and hydrated.
- AVOID: Dove, Aveeno, Olay, Nivea, Irish Spring, and Baby Oil.
- USE: Goat Boys, Alba, Cetaphil, CeraVe, Aviva, Cocoa Butter, Coconut oil.
- If you are unsure of your products, call/text us.
- Spray Tan DOES NOT protect skin from the sun or UV rays. Our solutions contain no form of SPF so you can still sunburn. Avoid sunburns as they will peel your tan. Make sure to protect your skin everyday with some form of SPF/Sunblock.
- Some Sunblocks to USE: Colorescience, Hempz, Babyganics, and Sun Bum.
- Avoid acne washes because they may strip your tan.
- AVOID soaking in bath tubs, hot tubs and pools. Soaking will cause your tan to fade, as it pulls products out of the skin. Pools and hot tubs contain chemicals that dry out your skin, which could cause a blotchy spray tan.
- AVOID getting waxed. If getting a manicure or pedicure DO NOT have your skin soaked or scrubbed. If you have showered it is OK to have lotion applied.

Frequently asked questions
No, Beachy & Peachy Spray Tans will not make you orange. There are no ingredients in our solutions that will turn you orange. However, it is essential you follow our pre and post care instructions for the perfect spray tan and color.
There will be a spray tan artist spraying you. The service will be completed by a trained professional.
On average, spray tans last between 5-10 days. This varies by a few factors. First, the rate at which we shed skin cells varies by person. On average, a person's cell turnover rate occurs every 7-20 days. Depending on your cell turnover rate, hormone levels, PH levels and skin type may all affect the life span of your spray tan. The second factor is how well you care for your tan. Please read all our pre and post care tanning tips.
Spray tan is scientifically called Dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA is made up of a plant based 3-compound sugar molecule- made up of sugar beets/sugar cane and glycerin. Glycerin is non toxic, colorless and odorless. This compound has a natural reaction with our epidermis that causes a bronzed color to the skin. DHA has been approved by the FDA since 1977. DHA is the active ingredient in spray tan solutions. The solution is sprayed onto the skin by a trained expert with specialized equipment.
To first understand how spray tanning works, we must first understand our skin. Our skin is made up of 3 main layers: The Epidermis, Dermis and Subcutis. Our top layer is our epidermis- which is made up of another 5 layers: the first being The Stratum Corneum. The stratum corneum is made up of our most matured skin cells. Spray tanning only affects this layer. The DHA in the spray tan solution has a natural reaction with these matured skin cells that causes our skin to turn bronze.
If you are shaving pre-spray tan then it is best to shave 24-48 hours beforehand. If you need to shave post-spray tan, it is best to wait until a day or two after your first rinse. When you shave, shave as gently as possible. Shaving is a form of exfoliation, so overall it is better to avoid it if you can.
If you have a manicure of any kind: regular nail polish, acrylics, gel, press-on, etc. your nails will NOT stain. The spray tan artist will wipe your nails at the end of your appointment However, if your nails are bare then they are at risk for staining. A helpful tip is to wear clear nail polish to avoid any possible staining.
